Rainwell RFD
Care and Maintenance
The Rainwell RFD is constructed using durable and recyclable materials, ensuring the Rainwell RFD's function and appearance are retained for decades in most Australian climatic conditions with minimal care, maintenance and environmental impact.Function
Prior to installing the Rainwell RFD, and on future occasions; remove overhanging branches and thoroughly clean gutters to create a clear channel for roof litter to flush into the Rainwell RFD - this practice will also improve the gutters lifespan, prevent mosquitoes breeding and reduce maintenance.
During rainfall, roof litter and a small amount of rainwater can expel out of the inlet filter opening. A heavy downpour can flush more roof litter into the Rainwell RFD, which may expel with an increased amount of rainwater.
If an excessive amount of rainwater is expelled from the inlet filter opening during normal rainfall. Raise the cover and lift the deflector curtain to remove lodged roof litter (twigs, leaves etc) and inspect the inlet filter and outlet screen for sediment binding to their surfaces. If this occurs, the inlet filter and outlet screen will need to be removed for cleaning:
- From the lip at the base of the filter lift upward then outward to remove the inlet filter assembly
- Carefully remove the inlet filter and outlet screen and soak them in mild detergent solution and clean with a nylon brush and rinse
- Push the outlet screen back into the outlet flange and ensure the 'U' channel is attached to the inlet filter edge then refit into the housing and slide assembly back to its original position.
Appearance
The effects of ultra violet light, pollution, dirt, grime and salt deposits can all accumulate on the Rainwell RFD over time.
Cleaning should take place every six months. However, in areas where pollutants are more prevalent, especially in coastal or industrial regions, a cleaning program should be carried out on a more frequent basis (i.e. every three months).
To clean the surface, carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge, then with a soft brush (non abrasive) or cloth, and a mild household detergent solution remove dust, salt and other deposits and rinse off with clean water. Do not use solvents.
